Derb Dabachi: a doctor a stone’s throw from Jemaa el-Fna
In this shopping street leading off the great square, we reach riads and homes at any hour.
Derb Dabachi runs east from Jemaa el-Fna through a string of shops, cafés and small hotels. The crowds stay thick until late, and scooters weave between pedestrians. Above the shops and in the neighbouring dead ends live families, and many tourists stay here. The doctor’s car stops at the edge of the square or in an accessible street; the rest is on foot. We are often called here in the evening, when a traveller comes back feverish from a day of sightseeing.
Helping the doctor find you
- Count the lanes from Jemaa el-Fna and say which one to turn into.
- Give the name of the shop or café opposite your door.
- In the evening, prefer a meeting point at the start of the street: the square is very busy.
When should you call us?
- Food poisoning after a meal out
- Sunstroke or exhaustion at the end of the day
- An ear infection or sinusitis that stops you sleeping
- A traveller whose diabetes becomes unbalanced during their stay
