Emergency doctor in Marrakech: non-life-threatening emergencies treated at home

For an acute situation that does not put life at risk, a doctor comes to assess and relieve the patient on the spot, day or night.

Not every emergency calls for the emergency services: renal colic, a high fever that is poorly tolerated, a wound that needs examining or a skin allergy without breathing difficulty all need a doctor without delay, without justifying a transfer. The SOS Médecins Marrakech dispatch assesses the situation on the phone; if it can be handled at home, a doctor comes to your home, office, hotel or riad. If the signs suggest a life-threatening situation, it directs you straight to the emergency services.

What the doctor can do

  • Assessment of severity and a full examination on the spot
  • Treatment of pain and acute symptoms
  • First aid if the doctor considers it useful (injection, dressing, IV drip depending on the equipment available)
  • Call to the emergency services and a written report if transfer to a healthcare facility is needed

When should you call us?

  • Acute pain: renal colic, locked back, a migraine that does not respond to the usual treatment
  • High fever that is poorly tolerated, shivering, repeated vomiting
  • Feeling faint without loss of consciousness, severe dizziness
  • A small wound, a limited burn, a fall or a sprain to be assessed
  • An allergic skin reaction without breathing difficulty or facial swelling

Preparing for the visit

  • Describe the symptoms precisely and answer our dispatch’s questions: they are used to assess severity.
  • If there is intense abdominal pain, give nothing to eat or drink without our dispatch’s advice.
  • Prepare a list of the patient’s current treatments, allergies and medical history.

Frequently asked questions

Should I call the emergency services or an emergency doctor?

Call the emergency services immediately in case of breathing difficulty, chest pain, loss of consciousness, signs of a stroke (drooping mouth, weakness on one side of the body, speech problems), heavy bleeding or seizures. Without these signs, call our dispatch: it will point you to the right response.

What happens if the doctor finds the situation more serious than expected?

The doctor gives first aid, calls the emergency services if necessary and gives you a report for the team taking over.

Does the emergency doctor also come out during the day?

Yes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week: a non-life-threatening emergency does not wait for nightfall. The service is for Marrakech residents and visitors alike, at home, at the office, at the hotel or in a riad.
