Mouassine: a doctor comes to your riad
Between the fountain, the mosque and the dyers’ souk, we visit guesthouses and local residents.
Mouassine is one of the districts most sought after by travellers: characterful riads, art galleries, terrace cafés and craft workshops around the mosque and its fountain. Old Marrakech families still live here. The lanes are too narrow for a car, so the doctor stops as close as possible, often near Bab Doukkala or the road down to Jemaa el-Fna, before finishing on foot. Riad staff often call us for a guest who has fallen ill in the middle of the night.
Helping the doctor find you
- The Mouassine fountain is an easy meeting point to find.
- Ask the riad to send someone to meet the doctor.
- For a family dar, note the colour of the door and the name of the derb.
When should you call us?
- A riad guest with digestive problems
- An allergic reaction (sting, food) in a traveller
- A child’s fever during a family stay
- A medical certificate for travel insurance
